Milk and Fibroids
Milk has always been trumpeted as a super food for decades because it contains vitamins, minerals, protein and bone building calcium. The milk produced today is so much different than the milk your grandmother used to drink because today’s milk is tainted with the laboratory made hormone called Recombinant Bovine Somatotropin (rBST).
What the heck is rBST? Here is the break down. There is a protein hormone, bovine somatotropin (BST) that is naturally produced in the pituitary glands of cattle. However, the laboratory named Monsanto, has developed a synthetic version of this hormone and has called it Recombinant Bovine Somatotropin (rBST). It is this synthetic form that is injected into cows to encourage milk production.
Note: If you see the abbreviation rBST keep in mind that it is the same thing as rBGH or recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone.
Now you may be asking: So what is the big deal anyway? Well, it is this synthetic hormone that contributes to estrogen dominance in women of childbearing age. The more milk you consume from cows injected with rBST the worse your fibroids symptoms will be and more your fibroids will grow.
Hard to believe?
This synthetic hormone has been banded in Canada, New Zealand, Japan and Australia as well as the 27 countries of the European Union.
Since rBST/rBST encourages estrogen production, it is especially dangerous to women and is linked to breast cancer and tumor growth(fibroids-non-cancerous).
In addition to synthetic hormones, commercial (non-organic) dairy farmers tend to inject cows with antibiotics. Antibiotics will interfere with the intestinal flora in the large intestine, therefore a lack of good bacteria in the colon will lead to digestive problems.
Do you have fibroid symptoms and do you consume dairy? Try to eliminate your consumption of any dairy from commercial cows and see if this makes a positive difference in your fibroid symptoms. Of course, you might have to incorporate other lifestyle changes such as improving diet and adding exercise and detox to your daily regimen.
Don’t worry because there are many non dairy products you can try that don’t sacrifice on taste.
Almond Milk—made from almonds and come in flavors like vanilla, chocolate, coconut-vanilla, and are even available in unsweetened flavor
Rice Milk—made from rice and come in unsweetened, vanilla, chocolate
Sunflower Milk—made from sunflower seeds
Hazelnut milk--made from hazelnuts and available in variety of flavors
There are a lot of non-dairy dessert options available. Look for them in the organic/natural section of your supermarket.
If you must consume milk , make sure it is organic. If you consume organic diary you will not be exposed to dangerous synthetic hormones and antibiotics. However, you should still keep consumption of dairy-be it organic or non-organic to a minimum.
